About Spanish Point

Spanish Point lies just west of Miltown Malbay in County Clare, a sandy Blue Flag strand fringed by a long spine of rock that is a rich place for rockpooling and watching coastal wildlife. It takes its name from the ships of the Spanish Armada wrecked along this coast in 1588. Today it is a popular swimming and surfing beach, lifeguarded through the summer, with a surfboard zone kept apart from swimmers.

Swimming & safety

Many Wild Atlantic Way beaches are lifeguarded through the summer and several hold the Blue Flag award, but cover and status change year to year.
