Seapoint
Seapoint — city sea-swimming spot on Dublin Bay.
About Seapoint
Seapoint, on the southside of Dublin Bay between Blackrock and Dún Laoghaire, is one of the city's best-loved sea-swimming spots — a curving stretch of sand and shingle gathered beneath a squat Martello tower built to watch for Napoleon's ships.
It has arguably the best infrastructure of the southside swims: large, well-kept changing shelters, public toilets and freshwater outdoor showers, which is why you'll find swimmers here in every season, from dawn dippers to the Christmas-Day crowd.
Swimming & safety
Seapoint is lifeguarded through the summer months and is one of Dublin's designated bathing waters. The bottom shelves gently, but the tide goes out a fair way — best swum around high water. Mind boat traffic near the Dún Laoghaire side and check the bathing-water status after heavy rain.
Tides & conditions
The beach changes through the day with the tide, and swimming can shift from easy to lively as the wind and swell get up. Check the live tide, wind and sea-temperature page for Seapoint before you travel — you can scrub forward to any date to plan a swim.
Getting there & facilities
Right on the DART line — Seapoint station is beside the beach, making it one of the easiest city swims to reach without a car. On-site there are changing shelters, toilets (seasonal hours) and cold freshwater showers. Limited street parking nearby; the DART is far easier on a sunny day.
Nearby
From Seapoint, the People's Park and seafront of Dún Laoghaire, the Forty Foot at Sandycove and Blackrock village are all a short stroll or DART hop away.
