About Killiney

Killiney Beach is a long crescent of pebble and coarse sand curving beneath wooded Killiney Hill on the southern edge of Dublin — a view so handsome it's been nicknamed the 'Bay of Naples of Ireland'.

It's a favourite for a bracing dip and a shoreline walk, with the DART running right along the back of the beach and the White Rock cove tucked in at the northern end.

Swimming & safety

Killiney is a designated bathing water with lifeguards through the summer. It's a steep, shingly beach that shelves quickly into deep water — good for a proper swim but keep an eye on children, and be aware of the drop-off close to shore.

Tides & conditions

The beach changes through the day with the tide, and swimming can shift from easy to lively as the wind and swell get up. Check the live tide, wind and sea-temperature page for Killiney before you travel — you can scrub forward to any date to plan a swim.

Getting there & facilities

Killiney DART station sits right behind the beach, and there's a car park at the southern (Killiney) end. Facilities are limited, so come prepared. The cliff walk up Killiney Hill for the panorama is well worth the climb afterwards.

Nearby

From Killiney, Killiney Hill Park, the village of Dalkey with its castle and the Vico bathing place are close by.
