About Greystones

Greystones has grown from a fishing village into one of the most sought-after seaside towns on the east coast, and its South Beach is a Blue Flag family favourite.

With the Cliff Walk to Bray at one end, a smart harbour and marina, and a run of excellent cafés and restaurants, it's a place to make a day of a swim.

Swimming & safety

Greystones is a Blue Flag beach for 2026 — certified water quality, good facilities and lifeguard cover through the bathing season. Lifeguards patrol through the summer (Wicklow County Council): weekends in June, then daily in July and August. Swim within the flagged area when they're on duty, and mind the tide, currents and any offshore wind.

Tides & conditions

The beach changes through the day with the tide, and swimming can shift from easy to lively as the wind and swell get up. Check the live tide, wind and sea-temperature page for Greystones before you travel — you can scrub forward to any date to plan a swim.

Getting there & facilities

Greystones is on the DART line straight from Dublin, which makes it one of the easiest sea swims to reach by train. There's parking, toilets and a children's playground, open year-round, and the town has plenty of places to warm up afterwards.

Nearby

From Greystones, the Greystones–Bray Cliff Walk, the harbour and marina and the Wicklow Mountains are close by.
