About Bray

Bray is a classic Victorian seaside resort less than 20 km south of Dublin, with a long curving promenade, a mile of sand-and-shingle beach and the green cone of Bray Head rising at its southern end.

Easy to reach and full of old-fashioned seaside cheer, it's a hugely popular spot when the weather turns warm.

Swimming & safety

Bray beach has lifeguards through the summer and is a monitored bathing water. It's a steep, shingly beach that deepens quickly, so mind your footing and keep an eye on children. Check the bathing-water status after heavy rain.

Tides & conditions

The beach changes through the day with the tide, and swimming can shift from easy to lively as the wind and swell get up. Check the live tide, wind and sea-temperature page for Bray before you travel — you can scrub forward to any date to plan a swim.

Getting there & facilities

Bray is on the DART line with parking along the seafront. The promenade has cafés, amusements and the Sea Life aquarium, and the Cliff Walk around Bray Head to Greystones starts at the southern end.
