About Bettystown

Bettystown is a long, golden Blue Flag strand on the Meath coast, running seamlessly into Laytown and on toward Mornington and the mouth of the Boyne — miles of firm sand for walking and swimming.

A classic family seaside spot within easy reach of Dublin, it has a relaxed promenade and all the ingredients of a summer day by the sea.

Swimming & safety

Bettystown is a Blue Flag beach for 2026 — certified water quality, good facilities and lifeguard cover through the bathing season. Lifeguards patrol through the summer (Meath County Council): weekends in June, then daily in July and August. Swim within the flagged area when they're on duty, and mind the tide, currents and any offshore wind.

Tides & conditions

The beach changes through the day with the tide, and swimming can shift from easy to lively as the wind and swell get up. Check the live tide, wind and sea-temperature page for Bettystown before you travel — you can scrub forward to any date to plan a swim.

Getting there & facilities

There's parking behind the strand and the beach connects to Laytown for a long ramble. The village has cafés and shops, and the East Meath coast is well served by the Dublin–Drogheda rail line.

Nearby

From Bettystown, Laytown, the Boyne estuary at Mornington and the Boyne Valley are close by.
